Over the past year we have had a boom in working with Log Cabins. We began to notice a very disheartening phenomenon. It seems almost all of the cabins we estimated had the wrong products applied to them by previous contractors. The sealant on the cabins were flaking, cracking, and peeling. None of the products initially applied to the cabins penetrated, they were all topcoats gone wrong. To rectify the situation was simple and straightforward. Remove the coatings from the cabin, strip them. The base must be ready to accept a penetrating product. We strip the cabin down to its base and air blast any remaining debris. It is important to note we use no chemicals, no sand (sand is detrimental to a cabin it attracts and holds moisture). Our procedure is 100% environmentally safe. The next step is caulking the cracks in the logs with a specialty caulk. This is quite time consuming as filling just the crack takes time. We then apply a 2 coat penetrating preservative to the logs. If you have a log cabin and want to protect it and make it last.
